Air Silent X Concerns

Pros:
Cons:

The Air Silent X mas only been on the market since April 2015 and often confused with its father the Air X from Southwest Wind Power, the earlier design from the 90's.

All wind generators, due to their mechanical nature, will have some form of mechanical vibration. On board a boat this problem is dampened significantly when the mast system is connected via rubber absorbing bushings. Additionally if the mast is coated with a vibration absorbing material it will help to minimize any transmitted vibration noise. Most mechanical noise (vibration) is generated from unbalanced blades. With precision, high tech, balanced blade sets that are now offered with the Air Silent X this problem is also minimized. Additionally the blade set increases performance of the older Air X models resulting in more energy production.

The proven design of the Air product line has now advanced one more step in its evolution.

Nice Wind Turbine

Pros:
Cons:
I replaced a Silentwind turbine with this one. The Silentwind had several failures before it finally died completely. This unit appears better built with a nicer fit and finish than the other unit. The installation is easier with just two wires instead of three. The unit starts up in light wind, and when the winds is above 15 knots the turbine noise is not that noticeable. Of course, with a good control panel you can always switch it off. Yes, it makes more noise than a solar panel. But it does things solar can’t. Like power your boat during a frontal passage, or add some amps at night. A good hybrid solar/wind charging system makes life easy on a boat!

The ad talks only of blade noise. But that is only half the issue.

I purchased the earlier model 18 months ago.

The main noise problem for the windgen owner comes from the turbine - a noisy whine which penetrates his whole boat.

Also its output is half the claim made in the promo.
